this book is so amazing not only does it have great picture like most making of bond books but this time is has a lot of information about the actors and set and crew overall it is a really great book i highly recommend it to any bond fan

Wonderful Making of Book

The book actually goes into great detail about the film and not just the depth of the actors and the directors but actually down to the special effects supervisor, the costume designer and the second unit director. Its just a great source of how a film is put together and the roles that are intertwined together. It has some wonderful photos in the book. The only complaints I have about the book is I wish it spent more time on the editing it only received about a page and half section, I just would have love to heard more about the process. It provides great details on the making of the Bond films. If you are interested in film production or the Bond films I would highly recommend getting this book.

Top ten of everything 2008

We use this book when we have family over for dinner. It engages everyone.
I ask the ? and then each person that wants to participate answers. The rule is that each person responds and then the correct answer is given.

If you choose to follow this format, it allows each person, no matter what age or intelligence, to give their response. Then when the caller gives the correct answer people immediately reflect on their own response first; then they think about whether they were correct. Believe it or not all this happens quickly (in my experience). There is not usually a focus on who was right or wrong. It may take some time to get participants used to the idea of going around the table before hearing whether their answer was correct.

Children, probably, benefit from this approach the most, however; this approach allows everyone to save face.

This is a wonderful addition to our school library's reference section that also includes The Guinness Book of Records. I can hand this to a bored and fidgeting sophomore knowing that he will not surface from it until the bell rings. That is high praise indeed. This compendium of lists is fun, interesting, arresting, and always has something to linger over. It ends up all over the library. Please, more goodies like this!!!

This book of marvelous photographs features an introduction by Chris Kratt and Martin Kratt of the PBS program, Kratt's Creatures. It was developed by an organization called SHAKTI for Children, and a portion of all proceeds are donated to the Global Fund for Children. The beautiful full-color photographs were contributed by Peace Corps volunteers and show images of youngsters from all over the world. They are engaged in everyday activities such as playing, going to school, hanging out with friends and family, and so forth. Every image portrays children as happy and active, and the text stresses the universal humanity that lies beneath our differences. A map near the front shows all of the countries represented in the book: Canada, Bolivia, Madagascar, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, Poland, and Mozambique. Additional information, again focused on our commonality as a global community, is offered on the final two or three pages. The entire book is nicely edited and laid out. Maya Ajmera is the creator and spokesperson for Children from Australia to Zimbabwe: A Photographic Journey Around the World (Charlesbridge, 1997) and co-author of the global education guide, Raising Children to Become Caring Contributors to the World. Maya is the founder and executive director of SHAKTI for Children. In the January 1999 issue of The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Maya was named among "A new guard of non-profit leaders...that will shape the charity world in the next century."

Maya is also the co-author of To Be a Kid (Charlesbridge, 1999) and Extraordinary Girls (Charlesbridge, 1999), both brilliantly photographed books that present a picture of global diversity, tolerance, and joy. Maya's books are published in partnership with SHAKTI for Children, and a portion of the proceeds from the sales of her books go to support community-based educational projects for children around the world. To Be a Kid is delightful!

I found this book to be a real delight. The thrust of the bookconcerns the idea that kids are kids no matter where they live. The pictures, of children all over the world doing similar things (playing ball, caring for animals, and more), are joyous and luminous. The text is so simple that my five-year-old could read most of it by herself. Each picture is labeled with the name of the country in which it was taken, and my daughter enjoyed matching the pictures with the map in the front of the book. This is a display of multiculturalism that avoids being either sappy or politically correct.

Grade 3-6-The classic children's book by Roald Dahl ( Knopf, 1961) receives royal treatment in this terrific audiobook production. James Henry Trotter, a poor orphan, is being raised by two horrible aunts. Magic crystals change his humdrum existence, and soon he is off on a great adventure on a giant peach with new friends who are, to say the least, unique. There are sharks, seagulls, and irate cloud people to add interest along the way and, of course, Dahl's irreverent poetry. The story has always been a crowd-pleaser, and Jeremy Irons does more than read the story-he performs it. Each character has a unique voice, aptly suiting each personality, and Irons tells the story with humor and energy. Fans of Dahl will not be disappointed in this briskly paced tale that is a delight from beginning to end.

Roald Dahl is a genius!

I think that Roald Dahl is probably the greatest children's author of the 20th century. He's three things that I'm always wanted to be. An Author, a genius, and Norwegian. I'm only one of the three :-) I'll let you guess which ones. Anyway, what a marvelous read and reminder that if life gives you giant peaches make chocolate cake and leave them wondering how you did it!

My kids loved this book

My daughter loves Roald Dahl books. We first read The BFG and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I ordered this book and it arrived quickly. My kids loved this book. It's a bit dark like his other novels but it made them laugh. James is such a sweet character. My daughter really liked the bug friends that accompany James on his journey. They were quirky but lovable.

Like the Peach, this book is huge for children

As a volunteer reader to school children, I'm always searching for stories that hold their interest. JAMES and the GIANT PEACH is just the book to grab the little peoples' minds and promote the shining upturned faces that every storyteller loves to see. As James and his larger-than-life insect friends ride a wayward giant peach through many heartstopping adventures, I always sense that each listening child has latched onto the insect with characteristics most similar to their own self image and rides with it, relishing each inventive way their bug contributes to the well-being of all the others. In fact, in my post reading conversation with the students, I ask what insect was the favorite. Each child has a different answer and reason for their selection. It's fascinating to hear each little person describe his or her choice.

Mr. Dahl wrote many children's books before his death in 1990, and each of them is a masterpiece of invention, excitement, humor, and scariness that children love to experience. In my opinion, JAMES and the GIANT PEACH, his first children's book after a decade and a half of writing adult stories, is the most appealing, never failing to capture the attention of young listeners and filling their minds with wondrous images.

If you haven't read it, do so. If you haven't read it to a child, do that also -- as soon as possible.
