About the Author
Enid Blyton is one of the best-loved children's authors with over 700 titles published. Aged 27, Enid married Hugh Pollock and moved to London. They had two children, and soon afterwards Enid wrote her first novel, The Adventures of the Wishing-Chair. Throughout the 40s and 50s, Enid wrote books at a colossal pace: adventure stories, mysteries, magical stories, farming stories, stories for younger children, and best-selling series like Malory Towers and Amelia Jane. She is the author of The Famous Five series, The Secret Seven series, The Wishing Chair series, Malory Towers, St Clare's, The Magic Faraway Tree series, Amelia Jane stories and many more! Enid died in 1963. Her stories remain timeless classics, adored throughout the world.

Wish middle school had been this much fun!

Not sure how well these books will hold up upon rereading them, but I was a huge fan as a preteen. I could only buy them on vacation when we went to Bermuda, and never was able to find one of the books ... But the magic of St Clare's has stayed with me. Twins! Midnight feasts! Crazy French teacher! Girl from circus! Fun English boarding school! (As an adult, not sure any of those words go together.) pretty sure my 8 yo will be enchanted in a year or so.
Update (a year or so later): I bought these for my daughter's ninth birthday. They took FOREVER to arrive since they were shipped from the UK, but they are a bit hit! She burrowed into the first book and has come up for air to ask "Mom, when you were in boarding school, did you have a lot of midnight feasts?" Oh god, how did she know?!? Except about the boarding school part.

Perfect.

These 9 books have been loved and devoured by the 8-year-old reading fanatic that I gave these to. In general, they are a combination of mystery and adventure and life at a (non-magical) girls' boarding school back before "tweens" were invented and teens thought they were adults. The stories are funny and the girls get into mischief, but it doesn't have the meanness that seems to be so prevalent these days. I had to defend myself from shrieks of laughter and the subsequent sharing of passages that made no sense to me since I was not reading them. The sign of a truly good book: the desire to share it.

Bought as a birthday gift

I remember these from my childhood, and bought them for a friend's daughter who turned 10 recently. Enid Blyton books are not as popular in the US as they are in England and the British Commonwealth. A few days after her birthday, I asked her how she liked it. She had finished them all! Looks like children in the US will enjoy them too. My complaint was that the book which was supposed to have been shipped from Washington state took almost 2 weeks to reach me
